The Merlion - Part 1
Just got back from my short trip to Singapore and Hongkong. It was my first time to visit Singapore and I can honestly say that I loved it there. The place is clean, REALLY clean. You'll never see garbage scattered on the street. From what I've heard, chewing gums are prohibited in Singapore, which probably explains why no ones selling them in convenience stores. Besides the place being clean, there are also a lot things that makes one's life convenient.
- Stop signs have digital counters that display how much time there is left before the lights will change
- All cabs have small lcd monitors that displays various information like what time you entered the cab, the fare, the name of the driver, customers who are waiting to be picked up, schedules of pick-up etc
- The buildings are inter-connected by underground walkways which also leads to the subway system that is so convenient for travelling around the country
- Subway tickets are proximity cards that require non-contact to the card readers - a staple for entry-exit in subway systems
Singapore is indeed very strict in implement and enforcing the law. They enforce strict road laws and regulations. A local told us that driver is only allowed a minimal number of violations given a period of time. If you exceed that number, you're license will either be suspended or revoked depending on the frequency of violations and you will have a hard time getting another.
